Balmes Dauphinoises, Savoy, France
What is Persan? Well, Persan is a high-quality red grape variety used in the production of a small handful of wines in Savoy. This varietal was presumed extinct for many years until it was rediscovered being grown by wine-makers in this region of France. On the nose this wine showcases aspects of plum, pomegranate seeds, and blackberry compote while the palate divulges dates, black cherry and white pepper with a tinge of minerality. Pair with mushroom risotto, beef tenderloin or leg of lamb.
