TASTING NOTES
The Principiano estate is situated in Monforte d'Alba in Piemonte's Langhe Hills and was founded by Ferdinando's father, Americo, in the 1950's. Ferdinando took charge of the estate in 1993 and since 2004 has farmed biodynamically, using no chemicals in the vineyards or sulphur in the cellar. The Barolo Serralunga is composed of mostly declassified Barolo fruit from ‘Boscareto,’ and a bit of ‘Lirano’ in Serralung. This Barolo has such elegance and finesse with approachable tannin underlying flavors of red berry fruit, forest floor, violets, rose petals, sweet spices and earth. It would make a generous gift or even a stellar presence at any dinner table. I had a hard time putting this one down! What, a natural Barolo that drinks with all the traditional terroir?!?!
