Luxardo Maraschino follows the original recipe from 1821 that was created by Girolamo Luxardo and requires four years to produce. Cherries are harvested from Luxardo's own trees and the solid components (leaves, branches, skins) are then infused in larchwood vats for three years. The product is then distilled in small copper pot stills and aged in Finnish ash wood for the remaining year. Finally, a combination of sugar and water is added before bottling.
Smooth but sharp, this liqueur has a rounded flavor with notes of cherries and rosewater with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla and orange marmalade. Luxardo Maraschino Originale can be enjoyed in many classic cocktails or neat as an after dinner drink. It is also ideal over fruits such as strawberries, pineapples, oranges etc. or as a flavor in confectionary and ice creams.
The tall green bottle with its red cap is still hand-plaited in straw onsite and resembles the Maraschino bottles produced in Zara in the early days, when the straw was placed in order to prevent damage during transportation. -Distiller's Notes
