Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy
Kerner, a cross of Riesling and red Schiava, was created in Germany in the 1920s but thrives in the craggy, steep, vineyards of Italy's Alto Adige. This aromatic white wine has apple and peach on the nose with a touch of jasmine. Flavors of green apple, peach blossom and uplifting acidity are balanced harmoniously by sweet and tart and a beguiling mineral depth. Kerner pairs well in any situation where there is spicy and/or spicy sweet food.
