Beelgara Shiraz 2017, New South Wales, Australia

South Wales, Australia

That's not a wine, this is a wine! The word Beelgara is derived from a local aborignal word meaning "native companion" and you should keep a bottle of this red by your side. Winemaker, Rod Hooper, uses organic composts as fertilizer, the soil structure is improved by the recycling of grape marc and sheep grazing is used during winter for weed control. This Aussie opens with notes of smoked paprika, leather and roasted cherries while the palate picks up plum, vanilla and pink peppercorn. Pair this down under beauty with mushroom risotto, an aged cheddar, smoked brisket or even kangaroo.
