Ermanno Cordero, like many Piemontese, has long been an admirer of traditional Chinato, especially the legendary Augusto Capellano, whose grandfather is believed to have been the originator of the recipe for Barolo Chinato. For years, Eermanno has been tinkering with a recipe that would pay homage to the best of these aromatized wines.
The Bruno Chinato NV was made using a base of 2017 Roero Nebbiolo which was fortified, sweetened, and steeped with a blend of herbs and spices, including gentian, cinchona (china) bark, orange peel, vanilla, cloves, and other local botanicals. This is a delicious Chinato, with an amazing texture and depth. Aromas of bitter orange, rhubarb, cardamom, and maybe a hint of Coca-Cola!
