TASTING NOTES

Le Nozay is a small 17th century castle located near the village of Sainte Gemme en Sancerrois to the north of Sancerre. It wasn’t until 1970 that Baron Philippe de Benoist and his wife Marie-Hélène came to settle in the Château du Nozay in this magnificent setting which later became the Domaine du Nozay. They planted the first hectare of Sauvignon Blanc in 1971, which they later expanded to 15 hectares. After cutting his teeth in Bourgogne in Côte Chalonnaise, Philippe was joined by his son Cyril, who now heads the estate. 

 

Cyril de Benoist is one of the few winemakers in Sancerre who has been farming biodynamically and had Domaine du Nozay Demeter-certified in 2017. He is also one of the few who has been experimenting with sonic stimulation in the vineyards. Speaker towers have been carefully placed throughout the vineyards, which emit tonal sequences at intervals throughout the day, promoting sap circulation and nourishing the overall health of the plant. The results have been undisputed.

 

This elegant expression of sauvignon blanc offers discreet aromas of pink grapefruit, lemon peel and sliced green apple. Refreshing notes of pear, lime leaf, saline and white flowers float on a structured body with crisp acidity and a mineral driven finish. This Sancerre will be a lovely companion to dishes with goat cheese, grilled or baked fish, sushi or vegetables like asparagus, artichokes, and peas.
