TASTING NOTES
The calling card wine from hero/vintner/reconteur/gourmand Gernot Kollmann is a crisp, crunchy, keenly balanced, TOTALLY DRY Riesling from multiple sources along the Mosel, including the Saar, Mitelmosel and Gernot’s own vineyards in Enkirch. His only cuvée vinified in steel. Fantastic QPR. *Batterieberg is a 1.1 hectare monopole within the Zeppwingert, and also the place that gives the estate its namesake: the name C.A.I is a tribute to "the guy with the dynamite", Carl August Immich, whose decision it was to dynamite this hill between 1841 and 1845 to create terraces and plant vines (Batterieberg translates to Battered Mountain). -Winery Notes

92pts - James Suckling
"This may be an entry-level wine, but it has a wonderful golden autumnal mellowness that’s like nothing else in Germany. I love the interplay of Mirabelle plum and smoke aromas with the restrained creaminess and delicate minerality on the medium-bodied palate. Emphatically dry but beautifully balanced finish."

91pts - Wine Advocate
"The golden-yellow colored CAI Riesling is quite deep and substantial on the nose. Perfectly ripe, intense and elegant fruit with flinty and herbal slate notes. Remarkably elegant on the palate - this is a dense, intense and juicy Riesling."
