Pheasant's Tears was founded in 2007 by American John Wurdeman and Georgian Gela Patalishvili. From the beginning, they have focused on tracking down and reviving near-extinct native grape varieties from around Georgia, which is home to over 500 indigenous varieties and considered by some to be the birthplace of wine.
Vardisperi Rkatsiteli is a rare, indigenous grape from Georgia, with a pinkish-mauve color, that is a clonal mutation of the Rkatsiteli grape — just like Pinot Grigio is the pink-skinned clone of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir.
This rosé - orange opens with captivating aromas of wild strawberry, golden raisins and gentle spice. The palate follows with layers of citrus preserves, plum and raspberry compote, evolving toward a clean, lightly tannic finish marked by hints of dried herbs and pink grapefruit.
