“Cuchen” means mama’s boy or munchkin in the local dialect—a childhood nickname for winemaker Alberto Taddei's younger brother, Alessandro, who now helps run the estate. Long mistaken for Trebbiano Toscana, Albanella has recently been shown through DNA profiling to be a distinct variety, with genetic ties to Elbling in Germany and Albariño in Spain. It thrives in the maritime-influenced microclimate of northern Marche, producing wines of freshness, minerality and quiet complexity. Grown in the hills near Pesaro on the Adriatic coast, it is bright and dry with notes of white flowers, green apple and a clean, mineral-driven finish.
