Tim Smith's Barossa Valley Mataro is crafted from old vines, some dating back 160 years. It is

a deep, flavorful red with concentrated aromas of dark plum, black cherry, and dried herbs. The palate is medium-bodied and unfolds with juicy mulberry, dark plum and blackberry flavors, complemented by savory notes of earthy spice, bay leaf and moderate tannin. Ideal matches include savory meat dishes or earthy veggies.

"Here, the 2023 Mataro is earthy and yet bright, with fresh acidity that zips through the mulberry-laden fruit. The length of flavor is convincing, and the wine offers a balanced perspective of Barossa and Mataro. If anything, the acidity is a little on the fresh side, but no doubt that will hold it in good stead for the future."
