Rías Baixas, Galicia, Spain
The father and daughter team of Carlos Castro Serrantes and Elisabeth Castro Nuñez are the force behind Tomada de Castro, a highly regarded Albariño producer based in the Val do Salnés area of Spain. Fun fact: Albaríno vines are trained on a trellis system so that they are high off the ground. Just off the Atlantic coast, this area of Spain has a soggy, wet climate that makes the trellis system integral to protecting the grapes from rot. This wine's nose suggests aromas of Asian pear, Saturn peach, and white flowers, while the tongue plays granite, granny smith apple, and a squeeze of Meyer lemon. Pair this with ceviche, fennel and grapefruit salad, or crab cakes.
