TASTING NOTES
Primosten, the historic and UNESCO-protected area in coastal Croatia, owns some of the most unique vineyards on earth. Two talented winemakers, Kreso Petrekovic and Niko Dukan have spotted the potential and decided to work on these forgotten lands.

Primosten vineyards were initially rocky, inaccessible terrain that has been transformed through extreme human effort into agricultural land, namely, by bare hands without the use of machines, or to be precise, it is impossible to use machinery. That created "Clos" (enclosed by a wall) like vineyards, and each Clos with approximately 2 to 12 vines. The vines literally grow on rocks and enjoy a great view of the Adriatic Sea. The rocks are a mixture of limestone and dolomitic limestone, which came from the tectonic crash of different plates. There is no soil at all. The vines find ways through small cracks filled with red clay on the way to the underground water, which goes from mountains to the sea. The tiny amount of red clay allows the vine to absorb and keep the water, long enough for the vines to stay hydrated during the long, hot, and rainless Mediterranean summers from May to October.

A play on words in Croatian, the winery name means “wines from the sea” because of the vineyard’s proximity to the Adriatic. Extremely gluggable, this coferment red has a tasty array of strawberry, pomegranate, blood orange, hints of violet, forest floor and savory minerality. Chill it, sip it and enjoy on your next day at the park.
